Davie’s Chuck Wagon Diner Neon Vintage Sign Photo
West Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO
The Davie’s Chuck Wagon Diner was built in 1957 in New Jersey, which today may well be one of the few agents of American Tradition in the West. The diner along with the huge neon sign weighing 46 tons was shipped to Colorado by rail, because of its great weight it may be as far west as you may see a diner. In the 1950’s there were 10,000 diners in existence and now there are only about half of what used to be or maybe not even half. In my opinion, mainly due to the increase in population which leads to more productivity in our farms, which leads to high demand, which leads to more chemicals being sprayed of our crops or the crops not being able to grow to their full potential. Take a look at the menu for Davie’s Chuck Wagon Diner is an around American menu or maybe some would say used to be American menu. People are conscious of what they are putting in their bodies today, a big majority of our population today eat organic, non GMO, gluten free and now a days you can find these in your local grocery store or the local farmer’s market. The new restaurants opening are foods from farm to table types of places to eat or the local smoothie stand whether it is fruity, greens, protein or fresh pressed kind of smoothie it’s the healthy way now. Don’t get me wrong there still is the night out with the kids to have ice cream sundaes but all in all you are seeing a more organic way happening and it needs to with the 70% increase in cancer rates in the last two decades.
The Davie’s Chuck Wagon Diner Neon sign must be a very special one for it to travel half way across country and still stands today all light up, in 1997, the National Society inducted it to the National Historical Registry. And God Bless the owner’s hearts for having one of the coolest largest neon signs that a diner could have.
