“Art Around Town” Public Art 2017-2018

The Town of Carbondale, CO Public Art Commission is seeking fifteen (15) street sculptures for its annual rotating “Art Around Town” public art. The sculptures are located throughout the Town of Carbondale, with several locations on Main St, the library and along the Rio Grande Trail. The annual show begins Thursday, June 4, 2017, at which time the Carbondale Public Arts Commission will host a public/patron artist reception and for all new artists selected for the 2017-2018 show. This is also Carbondale’s First Friday celebration weekend with many marketing opportunities available to the selected artists.
Selected artists will be awarded a $750 honorarium, and the sculpture that is voted “Best-In-Show” will be awarded an additional $1,000 bonus.
The Carbondale Public Arts Commission was the beneficiary of a donation of quarry marble (40 tons) in 2015 and 2016, from the Colorado Stone Quarry in Marble, CO, for the sculpture bases that all pieces will be mounted on for the “Art Around Town” show. The marble bases are a unique and artistic statement in itself, as it represents the culture and environment of the Roaring Fork Valley, and enhances the uniqueness of each sculpture that is placed on the marble. Submission Requirements:
Interested artists must submit two (2) high resolution views of one image marked “Proposal Image”, which is an image of the piece being submitted for display, along with three (3) additional images showing other examples of artist’s work. Submitted entries must be of completed work. Please describe sculpture materials in detail and durability to withstand outdoor, year-round conditions.
Please also provide contact information including phone, email, mailing address and current location of proposed sculpture. Installation requirements must also be included (please see attached questionnaire for installation requirements). The Town of Carbondale is not able to receive sculpture shipments, on behalf of an artist, and each artist must attend the installation or have an artist representative attend on their behalf.
Selected artist’s will be required to sign a contract with the Town of Carbondale, CO identifying
liability requirements, installation and de-installation requirements and specific information
related to the sculpture being on location for one year.
Deadline for entries through CAFÉ is February 5, 2017. Notification of selected artists will be
made by March 6, 2017.
